What Is The Difference Between AAU Basketball and Recreation Basketball?
AAU and YBOA are comprised of competitive elite or all-star type teams, that travel all over the state of Georgia and Nation to play in league sponsored tournaments (AAU and YBOA).  Unlike recreation, church or YMCA leagues, players must tryout and there is not a must play or sit rule.  In addition, teams play at a very competitive level with rules that are similar to High School and College leagues.

How Long Is The Season?
AAU and YBOA league tournament begin in March and end in August.  We will play approximately 8-10 tournaments, with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as the National Tournament.  Tournaments are held all over the country; therefore teams will be required to travel to participate in some tournaments.

Will My Child Play If He Makes The Team?
Teams are determined based upon the coaches’ discretion on what type of team and what type of players fit his system and style of play.  Example: a big kid may be passed over for a very good point guard, because the coach may need ball handlers, because his team style of play is fast pace.  In AAU every player is good, therefore because a player was good at recreation or YMCA level does not guarantee he will be good at AAU level (the level of competition at AAU is Great!)  At the AAU level- playing time is at the discretion of the coach and must be earned.  Many factors make up playing time: teams we play against, team strategy and match-ups.  In addition, not attending practice, attitude problems or past on-court performance all measure into playing time.
